The Catholic Men’s Society
The Catholic Men’s Society, established in 1854, is the oldest Catholic lay sodality in Great Britain.
The aim of the Society is the continual formation of its members spiritually, so that each may better fulfil his Christian vocation within the parish and the world.
The aim is to be achieved through regular meetings and four special works or promotions:
- The Mass,
- Planned study discussions,
- Retreats
- Community service.
Personal Formation
The Plan –
The Plan guides members through a study of a particular aspect of the Faith. It may be based on a Papal Encyclical, material issued by the Bishops Conferences or other material.
Spiritual Formation –
Prayer – making a collective development our prayer life
The Mass promotion – encouraging one another to continue to develop an appreciation of the Holy Mass
Retreat Promotion – attend a spiritual retreat once a year.
Social formation – Working in the local parish and community and taking an active interest in the life of the Church and social issues.
The group meets once a month for discussion – any men interested are more than welcome.
